Goodbye, Everyone!

Image
Made by Gemini AI Hello, my dear friends! I've come here to give some sad news...I'm leaving once again. 😓       As this course comes to an end, I want to take a moment to reflect and say goodbye to all my fellow learners and followers. This course has been an exciting journey in my education journey, and I’ve learned so much about integrating digital tools effectively into lesson plans just like how I've learn from Gökçe teacher's course.       One of the best parts of this course, in my opinion, was how personal it was and how we can use our blogs in our CVs in the future. Writing these blogs and creating these materials also helped me practise what we are learning in class better. But I'd say the downside to all of this was trying to understand some of the more advanced technologies and using them. I found it to be tricky sometimes as I'm not good at using computers at all..😶      My favourite task was definitely prepari...

Magic School is Magically Useful!

Image
Hello my dear bloggers~! 😆 Today, we designed a lesson "The Character Interview," where students will use the Magic School AI chatbot to help them with the 'blank page' problem. Instead of using AI to generate text, we designed a workflow where students use the chatbot to generate ideas. In the activity that we prepared by Canva, all students conduct an interview with a fictional character they've chosen to learn about that particular character's background, motivations, and conflicts. This " interview" pre-task is critical because, before students write, it gives them genuine background and situational use of the language they need and the right tone. When students are ready to write, the AI workflow we designed should have helped them generate a notebook full of ideas. In addition to a lesson outline, my friends and I have organized the entire AI workflow, including a student printable, a notebook, and a lesson package for you to download. Check ...

AR/VR and My Experience!

Image
Hello my dear bloggers! 🫶🏻 For this project, we designed a VR/AR integrated worksheet, ASSURE MODEL and a final project guideline to help A2-level high school English preparation students to virtually navigate through Tokyo. We began this project by making a worksheet after determining which landmarks, museums, and cultural activities to include, and creating questions around those preferences.  One of the main obstacles me and İrem faced in the project was the worksheet. Keeping the questions within the scope of A2-level students was a challenge, as we had to ensure that the questions we created were not only engaging but also at a level that students could handle, which was a bit difficult of a balance to find. The VR/AR content that we were looking for took a while to find as well, mostly because we needed videos that would fit the concept as well as possible. The ASSURE model my friend Nurefşan provided guidance during the planning process. Without being overly informa...

Flipped EFL Classroom and the Best Birthday Party!

Image
Hello, my dear bloggers! Did you miss me? Today I’m going to talk about what “flipped classroom” means and a grammar teaching video I made with my friends for a flipped EFL classroom. First of all, a flipped classroom means that students watch videos or read material before class, and during class time, students practice and ask the instructor questions. This is beneficial for language classes, as students come prepared, and the class time can be spent on speaking and using the language, so it is a big advantage in my opinion. It also helps students go at their own pace. However, I think there are some downsides. Students who don’t watch videos beforehand usually fall behind, and sometimes students are not able to grasp new grammar because they don’t have the support of the teacher. As a teacher myself, I wouldn’t really use this a p proach for my elementary students, as I know they wouldn’t study beforehand and need more guidance. image made by AI For our project, we planned...

Designing Corpus Activity & Assure Lesson Plan

Image
F or this project, we wanted to make lesson plans as well as teaching material that integrates corpus tools and AI in helping 10th-grade Turkish EFL Students master the differences between must and have to. Our focus was to implement a pedagogy that shifts the emphasis from traditional rule-based approaches to encouraging students to find and explore patterns in the corpus data. We narrowed it down to SKELL and formulated tasks that prompted students to analyze authentic data, structure features, and function. Additionally, we incorporated ChatGPT into our lesson plans, which allowed students to frame their hypotheses and receive feedback based on their writing. While some of us designed the lesson based on the ASSURE framework, others prepared the Corpus Practice, which helped the entire unit to overcome the imagined challenges that might arise from students. The documents moved from simple noticing to a sequence of tasks designed for advanced sorting and interpretation, an...

Return of a Legendary Blogger!

Hello~! I’m finally back with another blog post. Did you guys missed me ? Because I certainly did miss writing new posts ☺️ My name is Naz and I’m restarting my writing journey on blogger as a part of my Technology in English Language Teaching course. *ੈ✩‧₊˚༺☆༻*ੈ✩‧₊˚ I have a feeling this course will be an essential part of my journey in learning new educational technologies and I expect it to be very useful for me in the future as a ELT student. In this current course I will be learning a lot of things regarding the integration of technology when teaching English and also will be learning about the theories that support this topic. *ੈ✩‧₊˚༺☆༻*ੈ✩‧₊˚  I started to give private lessons via google meets this year so I’m very excited to learn new inovative ways to teach English to my own students. Last year I had similar course named Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language and I enjoyed using this space a lot during those lessons. The purpose of this bl...

Exploring Poetry Through AI

Image
Made with PicsArt Hello guys! Today tried out an AI simulation that talks and writes like Emily Dickinson, and the whole thing was way more interesting than I would have expected. The program was so realistic that some of the replies gave me chills because it almost felt like she was answering my questions while sitting right beside me. I was taken aback by how naturally it mimicked her artistry and way of speaking. This broadened my views on how AI might reshape everyday reading and how holding a conversation with a robot can actually be pretty inspiring! ────୨ৎ──── Using this AI in my work was far from flawless, though. Thinking about new questions that the bot would answer in an interesting and clear way was a hard thing for me. I think it answered best when I asked clear prompts that she can use to analyze her answer. So that caused me to ask as thoughtfully as possible. ────୨ৎ──── The writing feedback AI was good, but in my opinion, it was not enough feedback. I had to u...
