Flipped EFL Classroom and the Best Birthday Party!
Did you miss me? Today I’m going to talk about what “flipped classroom” means and a grammar teaching video I made with my friends for a flipped EFL classroom. First of all, a flipped classroom means that students watch videos or read material before class, and during class time, students practice and ask the instructor questions. This is beneficial for language classes, as students come prepared, and the class time can be spent on speaking and using the language, so it is a big advantage in my opinion. It also helps students go at their own pace. However, I think there are some downsides. Students who don’t watch videos beforehand usually fall behind, and sometimes students are not able to grasp new grammar because they don’t have the support of the teacher. As a teacher myself, I wouldn’t really use this approach for my elementary students, as I know they wouldn’t study beforehand and need more guidance.

For our project, we planned a flipped lesson which included a grammar teaching video and a worksheet for students to practice on, as well as an ASSURE model. In our group, we all voiced the characters from the video that we made. As I voiced the birthday girl and the clown, it was sometimes hard for me to record my own voice since I didn’t have any special equipment to voice over with, yet, I still think it was a fun experience to do so. I also worked on the worksheet and had trouble in the beginning to find activities, as the amount of vocabulary that we used was very limited.
In conclusion, I would say that this project has been a fun experience to be a part of, and I definitely would like to use the flipped classroom approach in the future if I have older students than I have now! Until next time!
